The Issue of Body Image Disturbance: Understanding the Research

LEESBURG, Fla. (June 16, 2013) As first introduced last week through the exploration of social media and online conversations relating to the prevalence of body image disturbance and society’s responses to it, there is a plethora of information and insight on the subject. In addition to the general population, the scientific and research community has invested extensive resources to determine the effective solutions to the troubling rise in body image disturbance and/ or eating disorders.

So, while it has been clearly established through both extensive research and public opinion that altered, unrealistic images found in the media have a strong correlating relationship to the development of body image disturbance, and there are various proactive and reactive responses to the issue, there is still much to discuss about the success of these responses in reaching those affected and lowering the number of those suffering with this illness.

  2. I enjoyed the video. It was very interesting and I do believe that young people believe that to be popular they need to be thin. I think a person’s personality is of greater importance than their body image.
